This article presents several news items related to the U.S., as of November 1, 1993. On October 7, 1993 the White House triumphantly announced that 12 environmental groups in the U.S., longtime plaintiffs in the spotted owl lawsuit against the Forest Service, have agreed to timber sales on public land in the Pacific Northwest, previously protected from logging by Judge William Dwyer because the cuts were clearly illegal. In another development, the seditious role of the "realists" and "compromisers," is brusquely described by Ronald Duchin, one of the partners of Mongoven, Biscoe and Duchin, a Washington-based public relation firm that spies on public interest organizations and sells its findings to corporations.
