This article focuses on the social and economic condition of Sarajevo after a war. The article describes that at the military shelter that was once the Sarajevo airport, U.N. peacekeeping soldiers have invented a unique souvenir. In the fifteen-month siege of Sarajevo 10,000-12,000 people have been killed-about 1,500 have died in the two months after the Security Council proclaimed the city a safe area, together with the five other Bosnian enclaves Bihac, Gorazde, Srebrenica, Tuzla and Zepa. The U.N. soldiers and the humanitarian-aid officers are the only people who look ready for war in Sarajevo, with their white jeeps, flak jackets, helmets and walkie-talkies.
