The article presents information on gays and lesbian themes. More recently, lesbian and gay themes have been gaining momentum in Asian cinema. There are queer film festivals sprouting in Tokyo and Hong Kong. Mowelfund, the experimental film institute in the Philippines, has started its first lesbian and gay film workshop. This year's Cannes Film Festival awarded the Palme d'Or to the motion picture "Farewell to My Concubine," a monumental epic of forbidden eros in the Beijing Opera. Based on the eponymous best-selling novel, this nearly three-hour-long opus hinges on the passionate relationship of two opera stars drowning in the raptures of history.
