This article presents information about the International Festival of Film at Cannes, France. Without any doubt the most glamorous event in the world. The "Piano," one of the two top prize winners, is anything but tedious, thanks to Jane Campion's direction; and yet it, too, contrived to close in on itself. A fantasy in the Gothic Romance style about a nineteenth-century woman, two men and, of course, a piano, the picture marks Campion's development from "Sweetie" and "An Angel at My Table" toward a more public mode of address.
