The article focuses on the film "The Story of Qiu Ju Okoge," by Stuart Klawans. As the film opens, the character Qiu Ju has made a trip to the village on foot, hauling along her injured husband in a wooden handcart. It seems the husband, who had been quarreling with the leader of their little settlement, had rashly insulted the headman's virility. The headman had replied with a kick to the appropriate spot. The Story of Qiu Ju tells how this unexpectedly enterprising woman goes about pursuing justice, first in the village, then in the town, then in the city.
