The article profiles the literary contribution of author Rosellen Brown and her books "Before and After," "A Rosellen Brown Reader: Selected Poetry and Prose" and "Streetgames: A Neighborhood." Brown's writing often concerns family tragedy, it is neither confessional nor parochial but exploratory. In Before and After, Brown's new novel, she seems to be taking up this dilemma and the stakes are high indeed a child's life. "Streetgames: A Neighborhood" a collection of short stories first published in 1974 and now reissued by Milkweed, has a multiple subject, a single racially and economically mixed block in Brooklyn.
