The article presents information on the book "Home Fires: An Intimate Portrait of One Middle-Class Family in Postwar America," by Donald Katz. Its a classic story and, for most a disturbingly familiar one, the dream of a perfect family gone astray. When Sam and Eve Gordon moved in 1952 from their apartment in the Bronx to a Long Island suburb, they thought they had at last staked a claim to their share of the American Dream. This was the great adventure of the postwar years, and they, like so many others of their generation, saw themselves as young pioneers in the fledgling suburban utopia.
