The article discusses the book "Natural Allies: Women's Associations in American History," by Anne Firor Scott. In this book, Scott documents the astonishing array of women's political activities over a 200-year period, from colonial sewing circles and nineteenth-century home missionary societies to the Consumers' League and the League of Women Voters in the 1920's. Scott does not attempt to catalogue all women's work, but rather selects a sample to demonstrate its range, scope and significance.
