The article reports on the massacre of forty South African blacks in Boipatong. Attackers were Zulu-speaking supporters of the Inkatha movement from a nearby hostel. By further inflaming tensions between Inkatha and the African National Congress, this attack will lead to further violence, lending support to those who claim that a transition from apartheid to a nonracial state would produce a bloodbath. The essential strategy of apartheid has been to divide and rule. Blacks were separated from whites, and both races were also divided by law from Asians and coloreds which resulted in violence like that at Boipatong.
