The article focuses on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's preparation, under freemarket ideologue Michael Powell, to relax ownership limits to allow further concentration of power and influence in the hands of just a few corporations. Powell will allow just one public hearing before issuing the new rules on February 27, 2003 in Richmond, Virginia. Powell enthusiastically endorses that bigger is better, because bigger brings more resources to news coverage and allows them to be spread over efficient economies of scale.
