The article presents information related to health care in the U.S. More than 37 million Americans are without any health insurance, and an additional 56 million have insurance so inadequate that a serious illness could throw them into bankruptcy. At the same time, U.S. health care costs are the highest in the world and are rising at nearly twice the general rate of inflation. The health security approach, modeled on the Canadian system, is favored by the people, in a 1990 Harris poll, 66 percent favored such a plan. Let's take a look at these alternative solutions to the nation's health care chaos. The private insurance reform package has two main components, a program for unemployed people with no insurance and a separate plan for the employed who are uninsured.
