The article presents political updates of the Soviet Union, as of September 16, 1991. The Soviet universe is exploding with unprecedented speed, unfathomable force and unpredictable result. The cohesion provided by the Communist Party for nearly seventy-five years has been broken. The Soviet state at the center of the Union seems to be withering away. In another update, it is impossible to predict the medium and long-term consequences of the abortive coup against Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev within and for Soviet Russia. But "the logic of the situation" invites several general observations.
