The article focuses on the book "The Bread and Puppet Theatre," by Stefan Brecht. As intellectual history this book is prodigious--in scope and completeness almost like the world itself. This is part of Brecht's series, "The Original Theatre of the City of New York," on "the culturally revolutionary florescence of the American theater, circa 1963-73": nine books on eight different theaters. "The Bread and Puppet Theatre" has always been reviewed more extensively in Europe--in countless articles, books and collections of photographs.
