The article presents information on socio-political conditions of the Muslim countries with special reference to Saudi Arabia. For many workers in the Persian Gulf, it does not matter a bit whether they work in the republic of the archenemy Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq or the kingdom of the arch-ally Fahd King of Saudi Arabia. Conditions are not much different from those endured by American slaves in the nineteenth century. The wealth of the gulf lies in oil, but the region's trade, administration, engineering, construction, agriculture and service industries, and the maintenance of its oil installations, are in the hands of foreign workers.
