In this article, the author presents his views about the influence of former British Prime Minister and writer Winston Churchill, on politicians in the U.S. The author compares U.S. President George Bush to Churchill. According to him in the State of the Union Message, Bush spoke of standing "at a defining hour," which is a conscious echo of Churchill's "finest hour" address of 1940. The author remarks that in the case of politicians in tight corners, Churchill can furnish a thesaurus of quotations far better than the average pinstripe speech-writer.
