The article focuses on the six Democratic candidates in the 2004 U.S. presidential elections and the challenge they must face in differentiating themselves from their competition. The candidates are Joe Lieberman, John Kerry, Dick Gephardt, John Edwards, Howard Dean and Al Sharpton. In general, all candidates aim to address primary issues such as opposing tax cuts and Social Security privatization as well as supporting abortion rights and strengthening environmental protection. The author discussed how each candidate differed from the other in terms of specific issues.
