This article presents information on the book "Union Square," by Meredith Tax. It is informed that the above mentioned book, a sequel to Tax's "Rivington Street," shamelessly employ the conventions of popular historical fiction in the manner of John Jakes or Gloria Goldreich, the kind of stuff a lot many wouldn't be caught dead reading on the subway. It is opined that Like Rivington Street, Union Square is a good read. It's juicy, fast-paced, full of scrumptious descriptions of food, fashion, glamorous living, romance. But that's not what makes it worth reading. Tax, unlike the others on the mass market shelves at B. Dalton, sees these details as part of a panorama of American history a political, social and, most profoundly, feminist history. Union Square takes up where Rivington Street lefts off, following the lives of its four heroines from 1919 to the eve of World War II.
