This article focuses on issues related to Iran-Iraq war of 1980. After the fall of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahelvi's regime, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and his shiite fundamentalists monopolize their power in Iran. Iraq was the first target to invade as it shares 700-mile border with Iran and nearly half of its people are shiite moslems. Iraqi invasion on Iran by President of Iraq Saddam Hussein led the war between the two countries. Khomeini grudgingly accepted the cease-fire as his favorite lieutenant, Ali-Akbar Hashenii Rafsanjani, and Khomeini's son, Ahmad, managed to convince him that the continuation of the war could bring about the collapse of their rule.
