The article focuses on three books by Raymond Williams, "Border Country," "Second Generation" and "The Fight for Manod." It states that Williams's writing is hard to classify. Most of his work combines elements of literary criticism, cultural criticism and social history. This disregard for the normal disciplinary boundaries was a matter of principle. Williams was an enemy of the division of labor, from the "separation between mental and manual labor, between administration and operation, between politics and social life" to the "last recess of the division of labor."
