The article discusses why the motion picture "The Quiet American," directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Michael Caine, was not shown after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the U.S. The film which opened for a two-week run in New York and Los Angeles, California, illustrates just how far Hollywood self-censorship has gone since 9/11. The film is about the U.S. citizens in colonial Indochina in 1952. Critics have said that it will likely win the Academy Award for Best Actor. It was finished before 9/11, and previewed on September 10, 2001 to an audience that loved it. But after 9/11, distributor Miramax cancelled the film. Harvey Weinstein, Miramax co-chairman, told the New York Times that they cannot release the film now because it is unpatriotic.
