The article presents information on Black Radical Congress (BRC) held on June 19 to 21, 1998 at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois. Redefining radicalism and putting the right on the run are explicit BRC goals. During the opening plenary; participants were asked to hold up cards splashed with the words "sexism" and "homophobia" whenever the proceedings were so marred. BRC claims several historic movements to create black united fronts as its precedents, and though all disbanded, they created change when, to some, it seemed impossible. Abolishing slavery was the major goal of the nineteenth-century convention movement.
