The article discusses the efforts of U.S. Democrat Senator Paul Wellstone to oppose blank-check authorization to use force against Iraq. The blank check authorization is also opposed by two Republicans Connie Morella and Jim Leach, who are also in tough races in the election. The political group MoveOn-Pac, a group of dissenters against the proposed war in Iraq, has raised funds to help the campaign of the Democrats. Other House Democrats who voted against the resolution include Jim Maloney who is running against Republican Representative Nancy Johnson, Rush Holt who was reelected in 2001 and Rick Larsen who is a first-term representative whose district is a home to two million military bases.
