The article comments on the efforts by U.S. President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress to portray a planned invasion of Iraq as an effort to enforce United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions. The U.S. has blocked sanctions and other means of enforcing them to its allied countries and has provided the military and economic aid that help make ongoing violations possible. Israel refused to respond positively to the formal acceptance by the Arab League of the land-for-peace formula in Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The violations to the Security Council resolutions by American allies contradicted to the UN Charter and Geneva Conventions and the foundations of international law.
