This article discusses the book "Waging Modern War: Bosnia, Kosovo, and the Future of Combat," by Wesley K. Clark. The book by Clark is dressed up as an analysis of the changing nature of contemporary conflict, the struggles over Bosnia and Kosovo are indeed presented here as a string of high-powered conferences, press briefings and depicted as a Machiavellian figure plotting in the shadows to undermine the man whom he once considered a potential Army chief of staff. The Apache issue is in some ways a central unifying theme of the narrative. The modern helicopters, tanks and artillery pieces that Clark assembled in northern Albania were never used because the Joint Chiefs thought the plan too risky.
