In this article the author reflects on the promotion of democracy in Venezuela, in light of the uprising of business groups and labor unions against President Hugo Chavez. He discusses the possibilities if the National Endowment for Democracy-backed conference had occurred in the country. He questions the decision of the U.S. Embassy to declare as a myth the notion that the U.S. government, through organizations such as the National Endowment for Democracy, financed coup efforts.
