The article examines the problems faced by the steel industry in the U.S. Youngstown in Ohio used to be one of the biggest steel mill cities in the country before big steel companies were forced to shut down and file for bankruptcy protection. The United Steelworkers of America union and W.L. Ross are negotiating with regard to steel producer LTV, which had been acquired by the latter. Tariffs and stalled production have led to increases in steel prices. U.S. superdominance is said to have affected the local steel industry.
