The article focuses on various issues related to civil rights in the U.S. A series of articles in the "San Francisco Chronicle" reveal that during the 1960s, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation plotted with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency to harass student protesters at the University of California, Berkeley, provided false background information about its president, Clark Kerr, and conducted a misinformation campaign against the university. A statement was issued by writers, actors and academics to protest against peace and human rights violations by the U.S.
