The article discusses issues concerning affirmative action programs in the U.S. Affirmative often promotes people who are underprepared for their assigned tasks and it attaches a stigma to those who do succeed on their own, often with a psychological burden. The problem with the program is how easily it can be manipulated for nefarious purposes. The media's response to the traditional affirmative-action constituencies and the well-funded propaganda offensive by the conservatives in the U.S. is also addressed.
