The article presents the author's excursion through the motels of Middle America from Austin, and his experiences of the changing attitudes of people towards the police. Observations about the increasing fear of the White people from the police have been made. People are nervous of cops as there are so many reasons for the cops to send people to on false pretext. Unwarranted signboards have been placed on roads and people are unnecessarily harassed. Warnings are issued against hitchhikers. Too much money is being spent on laying cables across the desert while old people have to work hard for a living.
