AND DARKNESS COVERED THE LAND

The article focuses on Israel-Palestinian relations. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declared that the deliberate targeting of a high-ranking Israeli official had taken the war to a "new level," beyond the horrors of Palestinian drive, by shootings and suicide bombings. Of course, Sharon did not see the similarity to his own highly controversial policy of assassinating Palestinian leaders and suspected gunmen in what the United States has denounced as "extrajudicial killings." Israel did not set out to be a right-wing apartheid-state-in-the-making, where Palestinians would be held in bantustans, if they were not expelled.
