In this article, the author focuses on current developments in the New York State's politics, specially in context of the so-called Third Party. This Third Party is claimed to be New York's working families party which is now gaining ground in the state due to its multiracial and populist approach. New York is unique in that it is the only state where political parties regularly cross-endorse candidates from other parties. As a result, instead of being marginalized as "spoilers," third parties have played an important role in state politics going back to the 1930s, with the Liberals giving the U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt his margin of victory in 1944 and Conservatives averaging 300,000 votes in state elections.
