The article focuses on two films "Yi Yi" and "Dancer in the Dark". Yi Yi is written and directed by Edward Yang. The film starts with a wedding at the beginning, a funeral at the end and a birth right in the middle. The main characters of the film, members of a single middle-class family in Taipei, span ages from childhood through senescence. The film includes Wu Nienjen, Chen Xisheng and Ke Suyun. The second film by Lars von Trier, is the story of Selma, a single mother who works in a factory and losing her sight.
