The author of the article discusses the election of African American politician Barack Obama as U.S. president, and the fact that Obama won the southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. The article emphasizes that this election does not prove that racism in the U.S. is dead, but that Obama's talents overcame that instinct. The author states that the reactionary campaign of U.S. presidential candidate John McCain backfired, and that his calling Obama a socialist did not work.
