The author of the article discusses the nomination of U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin by U.S. presidential candidate John McCain, and the team of McCain operatives sent to Alaska to vet and extricate the candidate from a state investigation into an abuse of power charge involving her brother-in-law. The scandal, nicknamed Troopergate, involved the accusation that Palin fired Alaska's police chief for not firing her former brother-in-law.
