The article offers commentary on U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's petroleum industry politics while Governor of Alaska, a state where petroleum industry profits replace income tax revenue. Palin became Alaska's governor in 2006 and set about increasing the state's petroleum and gas revenues by enacting the legislation that created Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share (ACES) tax on these products, and the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA).
