The article offers commentary on U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's policy-making as the Governor of Alaska. On August 4, 2008, Palin supported an Alaska state lawsuit against the U.S. government concerning polar bears being placed on the U.S. endangered species list. U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne reacted by stating that development of Alaska's natural resources would not be hampered by the federal ruling on polar bears.
