The article reports that mainstream media journalists such as Jake Tapper of "Salon" magazine, R. W. Apple, Jr. of the "New York Times," Fareed Zakaria of "Newsweek," and Chris Matthews of MSNBC's television show "Hardball," have all fallen under the spell of the maverick U.S. presidential candidate John McCain. With this assistance from the press, McCain's extreme politics and changing positions are not emphasized in his news coverage.
