This article presents information about the book "Spending: A Utopian Divertimento," by Mary Gordon. In this book, Gordon's heroine, Monica Szabo, enjoys bump-and-grind disco sex, bathroom floor sex, shower sex, armchair sex, movie theater sex and beach sex. Although Szabo is another one of Gordon's middle-aged, lapsed Catholic girls, she doesn't even feel bad about all her non-procreative carnality. Ostensibly, there's a more serious subject being explored here than the orgasmic stamina of the peri-menopausal woman, and that is the plight of the woman artist.
