The article reports that the General Motors Corp. is offering buyouts to 74,000 hourly employees in an effort to reduce labor costs, a move unapproved by the United Auto Workers Union. The union sees the move as an additional setback to the concession they made allowing wage cutbacks for new workers. Similar buyout plans are being instituted by Ford Motors Co. and the Chrysler Corp.
