The author of the article discusses the U.S. presidential primaries and the candidates' relations to U.S. president George W. Bush's Protect America Act (PAA). House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi has led the opposition to the bill, but candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton missed the bill's vote. John McCain supported the PAA, but liberals object to Bush's quest to make the bill permanent.
