The article discusses the U.S. Democratic party and how close the 2008 race to pick the party's presidential candidate is. The author discusses the role that super-delegates, the unpledged party officials not elected by voters, could play in the candidate's selection. The author discusses Rick Perlstein's book "Nixonland," and traces the history of Democratic party politics back to the 1968 Democratic National Convention and politicians like Robert Kennedy.
