This article presents information about the book "Deep Background," by David Corn. In this book Corn captures well the personal side of Washington playmaking, at least what one assume are some of its components: cynicism within that matches public cynicism without, but some idealism, too. Intramural rivalries between close-knit teams within a bureaucracy. Racism revealed in small linguistic tics rather than large, overt acts. Love or incipient love, or perhaps not love but sufficient-to-the-moment contacts.
