This article comments on the relocation of U.S. Vice President Al Gore's team from downtown Washington to Nashville. For years, Gore has depended upon the kindness of a particular type of Washington denizen, the influence professional/political operator, who shuffles between the private sector and the political sector. In July 1999 this slice of Gore's world received attention when he hired consultant Carter Eskew to hone his campaign message.
