This article presents information on various socio-political issues particularly from the East Asian countries. In May 1995 the Portuguese Parliament hosted an inter-parliamentary conference on East Timor. Judge Michael Kirby, a lawyer gave his opinion that Indonesia would soon supersede Japan. But no one knew that East Timor will be free. Indonesia's economic might, the element to which everybody bowed down is now melting. Megawati Sukarnoputri, daughter of Indonesia's independence leader, and Abdel Rahman Wahid, leader of the largest Muslim reformist group, called for Indonesian President Suharto to step aside.
