This article focuses on the trial proceedings against tobacco companies in the United States. They are facing their most serious legal assault. Minnesota is the first of forty state lawsuits to proceed to trail. The article refers to the trail against Big Tobacco company in the Ramsey County District Court. The trail comes at a time when the tobacco companies' efforts to end the lawsuits against them and cut a settlement with Congress are faltering. With each new revelation from industry files about the targeting of youth smokers, more of Big Tobacco's traditional supporters on Capitol Hill are defecting.
