This article discusses reaction to an article published by 2 professors, John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, in which they argue that U.S. policy in the Middle East is unduly influenced by forces that are pro-Israel. The article, entitled "The Israel Lobby," provoked widespread condemnation and accusations of anti-Semitism. The authors maintained that the goals of the United States and Israel are not always the same, but that the U.S. will defer to the wants of Israel even when doing so is not in the nation's best interest.
