The article focuses on the movies "Run Lola Run," directed by Tom Tykwer, and "Buena Vista Social Club," by Ry Cooder. Coolness, rather than love, conquers all in this movie. Coolness precedes love as its precondition and grants Lola, the character, power to make the movie turn out as she'd like. The movie's excitement, cheap but harmless, might spur millions to indiscriminate movie- going, and maybe to the discovery of films that are good but unflashy. The film has been making a triumphal progress through the world's festivals and into its movie houses. "Run Lola Run" has won the hearts of certain Americans who ordinarily disdain foreign films.
