Presents an editorial regarding the energy policy of United States President George W. Bush. Rise of gasoline prices due to Hurricane Katrina's damage to the Gulf Coast's drilling wells and oil refineries; Flaws in Bush's energy policies which perpetuate the nation's need for cheap petroleum rather than develop alternative sources of energy; Demand for petroleum in the U.S.; Role of oil in precipitating the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003; Production of oil in the Gulf of Mexico; Reference to the "Ten-Point Plan for Good Jobs and Energy Independence," from the Apollo Alliance, which calls for an increase of automobile fuel-efficiency requirements and the investment of federal subsidies in renewable energy resources such as biofuels.
