Presents the author's views on the foreign policy of the Democratic Party. Review of the foreign policy put forth by Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004; Suggestion that party situated its foreign policy agenda as close to the agenda of U.S. President George W. Bush as possible without actually embracing it; View that the strategy failed to persuade working-class and suburban voters and reinforced the public view that Democrats have no mind of their own; Suggestion that Democrats renew their foreign policy agenda with tough talk against Islamic jihadism and an effort to connect with the rise of a global middle class.
