Giving Africa a Hand

Presents an editorial discussing the forthcoming Group of 8 (G-8) summit meeting in Scotland and the issue of debt relief for impoverished nations. Review of how G-8 Leaders wrote off the debts of eighteen impoverished countries, fourteen of them in Africa; View that while the decision was a success for supporters of debt relief, much more needs to be done; Suggestion that the current G-8 plan affects less than two dozen of one hundred nations that, according to the United Nations, need total debt forgiveness in order to meet the UN Millennium Development Goal of halving poverty and disease by 2015.
